JAO Jyväskylä College, Welfare and Culture, Crafts and Design
Crafts and Design is a part of Jyväskylä College, Welfare and Culture. It´s situated in Petäjävesi which is a municipality in Central Finland with great natural beauty, located about 35 kilometers from Jyväskylä to the west. In Petäjävesi you can enjoy of peace in the Old Church of Petäjävesi, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
JAO provides education for future Artisans and Professionals in Visual Expression. Vocational Qualification in Visual Expression is a two- or three-years-programme and the students can specialize in Photography. The College has altogether 150 students and 18 staff. 40 students are studying visual expression.
Previously the College was known as the Central Finland Handicraft and Industrial Art School. Completion of the studies provides qualification for working life or eligibility for further education. The students of Photography achieve the qualification of a photographer. The various photographing techniques and developing the student’s personal way of expression are the main objectives of the studies.
